About Beverley
Having completed my M.Ed (Practitioner Enquiry) at Newcastle University, I was impressed by the support and opportunities offered to part time mature students.
The Doctorate in Education offered me a fabulous opportunity to acquire academic knowledge, understanding and confidence through its initial taught element. It prepared me for the criticality and rigour required for my subsequent independent research activities.
A supportive learning environment
What stands out the most for me at Newcastle University is the support given to me for the multidisciplinary nature of my research that spans across so many academic fields.
The university has supportive staff, a welcoming environment and it is fabulously situated and with good library resources.
Many of the networking opportunities offered aligned with my professional interests as well as my research interests. My experiences benefited my professional development alongside my academic development.
I would recommend this course for the academic challenge and for the ability to adapt to your own individual professional needs. Its flexibility allows you to select the modules that best fit with your own professional practices.
As a mature student I depended upon the wealth of support offered throughout.
The application process
The course application was direct and easy. The course leader was approachable, reassuring and enthusiastic and clearly explained the requirements of the course and the commitments I would need to make. This was important as I was balancing my studies with my full-time role as a Creative Producer.
Future career aspirations
My experience of studying at Newcastle has inordinately enhanced my career. It's allowed me to develop an invaluable skill set that I draw on each day in my work developing arts programmes with schools.
In the future, I would like to continue my work within arts education as a Creative Producer - developing and advocating for evidence-based practice within participatory arts education.
