Doctoral College
Working to improve the PGR Student Experience.
About the Doctoral College
The Doctoral College provides dedicated support and expert guidance to enhance the Postgraduate Research (PGR) experience at Newcastle University. We work in close collaboration with a wide range of PGR-focused colleagues across all academic units and professional services across the institution.
“Our vision is to embed PGR students at the centre of our activities, providing them with leading-edge education, training and development that will allow them to flourish in many different futures. Our PGR students will be enabled to contribute fully to our research excellence and impact by advancing knowledge, working with our partners, and providing creative solutions to regional, national and global challenges.”
To realise this vision, the Doctoral College leads a range of cross-University initiatives. Some of our core responsibilities include:
- We lead on the implementation of the PGR Strategic Plan, ensuring the delivery of student policy, and overseeing cross-University change projects.
- We provide financial support for student-led initiatives, empowering PGRs to spearhead their own events. This ranges from high-impact, one-off activities, such as conferences and exhibitions, to the funding and co-organisation of regular workshop programmes hosted through our PGR Community Hub.
- We drive the development and delivery of the PGR Supervisor Development Programme, to ensure our staff are equipped with best practice and able to provide high-quality supervision.
