Cloud Computing MSc

About Shubh

Hi there, I am Shubh and I study MSc Cloud Computing at Newcastle. I chose Newcastle University because of its strong reputation in computing and the vibrant, research-led learning environment. The range of specialist modules, the emphasis on practical experience, and the support for international students really stood out to me. I was also drawn to the city itself – a student-friendly place with a lot of character

I received a £4,000 tuition fee reduction through the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship, which made a significant difference in easing the financial pressure of moving to a new country. It helped me settle into student life more comfortably and focus on my studies without financial stress.

My favourite thing about my course

My favourite part of MSc Cloud Computing has been the opportunity to work on real-world projects and apply what I’ve learned to solve practical problems. The modules are designed with industry relevance in mind, and I’ve particularly enjoyed the flexibility to explore areas like cybersecurity and the Internet of Things.

Group projects have improved my teamwork and communication abilities, and presenting my work has boosted my confidence and public speaking skills which will be valuable for my future career.

During the course, I developed strong technical and research skills. Particularly in problem-solving, programming and systems thinking.

Supportive environment

The university offers a great range of pastoral support services. I’ve benefitted from academic mentorship, wellbeing services, and support from the international student office. The support services here at Newcastle University have been incredibly helpful in adjusting to a new academic system and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I especially appreciated the help with preparing for job interviews and curating my CV and LinkedIn profile.

Discovering Newcastle

Newcastle strikes the perfect balance of being lively yet welcoming. There’s always something going on, from music and art to food festivals, and the people are incredibly friendly.

Newcastle is a very walkable city with beautiful nearby nature, including the coast and countryside, which adds so much to the experience.

My advice to future students

Stay curious and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Computing is a vast field, so explore as many areas as possible before narrowing down your interests. Also, take full advantage of the resources and support Newcastle offers—they can truly enhance your learning journey.

Transformative experience

Studying at Newcastle has been a transformative experience— academically, professionally, and personally. I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone considering a career in computing.

I’ve met people from all over the world, gained valuable insights into cutting-edge technology, and grown in confidence.
