Our Partnerships in Action

Newcastle University has a strong global community and a wide array of international partnerships. We work together with our partners to deliver education, experiences and research that truly embraces a global outlook.

We are global

We work with our international partners to deliver education, experiences and research that truly embrace a global outlook. As a community, we collaborate across the world to achieve more than we can alone and to help tackle the challenges affecting society.

Our partnership model isn’t a one size fits all, as some are tiny and others are enormous. But they all share our commitment to social and environmental justice. We want our partnerships to positively impact the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

We also host regular outgoing international delegations and incoming diplomatic visits.

Global partnerships in action

We work together with our international partners to deliver education, experiences and research that truly embrace a global outlook.

As a community, we collaborate across the world to achieve more than we can alone and to help tackle the challenges affecting society.

Our partnership model isn’t a one size fits all, but what they have in common is that they share our commitment to:

  • social and environmental justice
  • climate resilience
  • our core values of equality, diversity and inclusion
Our global partners

Example global partners include:

  • The Centre for Excellence for Oceanography and the Blue Economy (COBE) based in Antigua. This project is testament our collective quest for a brighter oceanic future.
  • The National University of Water and Environmental Engineering (NUWEE), in Ukraine as part of the Universities UK (UUK), #TwinforHope initiative.
  • The North East England South Asia Mental Health Alliance (NEESAMA). As a founding member, we’re working with local organisations to help improve research, education and clinical service delivery in-country.
  • A 250 strong university exchange partner network, enabling our students to gain a global experience as part of their degree
  • Active membership of the British Councils RENKEI network, bringing together leading universities in Japan and the UK to further knowledge exchange and research partnerships.
  • Through our Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub, we’ve developed the Kids Action Thru Science (KATS) initiative. The team have successfully delivered projects across North East England, India and Small Island Developing States. Our ambition is to mobilise a global network of 'climate superheroes'.
  • The British School at Rome, providing formal fellowship schemes enabling staff and students the opportunity to collaborate on research projects and career development initiatives.
