Pay rate: £15.86 per hour (including holiday pay) 

This is an exciting internship opportunity for six students, working with the Student Life and central Social Media teams as Student Content Creators.  

This internship is expected to be for a total of 60 hours between October 2026 and June 2027.  

There will be a flexible working pattern of up to 6 hours per week, depending on content requirements and the number of ideas you submit. 

To be eligible to apply, you must be a Newcastle University undergraduate or postgraduate student registered on a programme of study throughout the 2026-27 academic year. For full details of eligibility see the Working on Campus website.

Work will take place both on campus and remotely. All work must be undertaken in the UK, including any work carried out remotely.  

What are we looking for? 

We’re looking for creative, confident and reliable students who are passionate about storytelling and social media. As a Student Content Creator, you’ll capture and share your experiences of life at Newcastle University through engaging content for platforms like TikTok, Instagram, blogs, newsletters and more. 

Your videos, photos and written content will help inspire, inform and engage current and future students, encouraging them to make the most of their time at Newcastle.  

You must be confident in video editing and production, including experience creating TikToks and Reels. You must also be comfortable being filmed, speaking on camera, doing voiceovers and interviewing students and staff on campus.  

You will also be confident in copywriting and capable of condensing your thoughts into entertaining blogs and longer-form writing.    

You’ll have a creative flair with a good understanding of the latest social media trends, which you will be keen to share. You will provide the teams with insights into student life by proactively participating in our meetings, sharing your ideas and coming up with creative ways to engage students. You will also be able to work to a brief when required.  

You must have a good eye for quality content and a strong attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines, communicate clearly and use your own initiative. You will often be working by yourself or in a small group. 

Key tasks: 

  • Attend monthly planning sessions with the Student Life and Social Media teams. These will usually take place on a Wednesday afternoon. A full list of dates will be provided, and you should aim to attend all sessions to stay up to date with content planning and team updates. 
  • Pitch, plan and develop new, engaging content ideas. 
  • Create high-quality content using digital media and copywriting skills to showcase life at Newcastle. 
  • Contribute to student communications projects, offering feedback and ideas to improve how we connect with students. 

We expect a minimum of two pieces of content per month. Workload will vary throughout the academic year depending on campaigns and events, but you'll have the flexibility to create additional content based on your ideas and availability. 

 Essential skills: 

  • Confident in copywriting, end-to-end video editing and production 
  • Comfortable being filmed, fronting videos, producing voiceovers and interviewing people

Desirable skills:

  • Understanding of different social media platforms

To apply for this role, you must submit: 

1. A short-form video (TikTok/Instagram Reel style) 

Create a 30-60 second video that captures an aspect of student life at Newcastle University. Your video should include: 

  • you speaking directly to the camera 
  • use of voiceover narration 
  • original footage and relevant audio 

Note: Do not use AI for creating footage. 

This is your chance to show off your creativity, technical ability and your confidence on and off camera – have fun with it! If your submission is based on an existing trend/meme, please include a link to reference material for context.  

 

2. A short blog post 

Write a 150 – 300 word blog post for students on the following topic:  

‘My favourite experience of being a Newcastle University student so far’. 

Your blog should: 

  • demonstrate your copywriting skills 
  • be personal and authentic 

 

 3. Your CV

If you have an existing public social media account or portfolio showcasing relevant content (e.g. TikToks, Reels, blogs), feel free to include links in your application.  

Successful applicants will be invited to interview shortly after applications close. Interviews will take place on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 October 2026.
