Practical support during your studies

Student Wellbeing provides information, advice and guidance on a wide range of student support issues to enable all students to maximise their potential whilst at University. Support can include, student finance, counselling and mental health, help for students with specific learning difficulties (such as Dyslexia, dyspraxia or Asperger’s), disability (including long term chronic conditions), faith, health information and general wellbeing.

Baby changing facilities are available on campus at the following locations:
- King’s Gate Level 2
- Hadrian Building
- Students’ Union
- Philip Robinson Library

There are dedicated nursing rooms on campus. These are identified on our interactive campus map in the following locations:
- Room 221 - Philip Robinson Library
- Room G.08B - Herschel Building
- Room 1.01 – Margaret Barbour Building

If your caring responsibilities are affecting your attendance or assessments help is available. Talk to your Academic Adviser or Student Wellbeing. They can help you find the right support. This may be a Personal Extenuating Circumstances form or a Student Support Plan.

NUSU

The Student Parents, Carers and Guardians Officer and the Wellbeing and Communities Officer at the Students' Union represents and advocates for students who have caring, parental or guardianship responsibilities.

The Support and Advice Hub at the Students’ Union can offer advice and provide support.

External Support

Netmums is a valuable resource for any parent. This website lists various information on activities in your local area. It lists baby and toddler groups, ideas for school holidays, places to go and after school clubs.

Children and Families Newcastle brings together support, services and activities across the city.

North East Action for Children, Parents and Inclusion promotes services and support to children and families, local communities, volunteers and organisations. They also run a Toy Library.

NHS Best Start in Life provides advice on pregnancy, babies and supporting your toddler's development. It also has childcare and education support.

Newcastle City Council provides information for anyone living in their area on schools, learning and childcare.
