Learning Together: Building a vision for Academic Support for the next decade and beyond
The 2026 Learning and Teaching Conference – Learning Together: Building a vision for Academic Support for the next decade and beyond, will take place on 26th March 2026 in the Hershel Building in the heart of the Newcastle campus. You can now register for the conference.
Students can still submit proposals for consideration by the Conference Committee. The deadline for student submissions is Friday 31st January 2026.
The conference will put a spotlight on the collective endeavour of supporting our student community within and beyond the curriculum. There will be a focus on personal tutoring and advising alongside beyond the curriculum from our university wide services.
Contributions are being invited that speak to our conference themes:
- Student voices. Contributions produced by and/or with students who can share their perspectives and views of personal tutoring and advising, what they value, and what they need for their own futures.
- Meaning making. Helping students make meaning of their education; self-discovery and transformation; educational gain; learning beyond the taught curriculum; life beyond and transition out of university: ’world and life readiness’.
- Collaboration. Contributions considering personal tutoring and advising as a collaborative practice between academic and professional services colleagues, for example focusing on professional boundaries, policies and systems, and case studies of transformative collaborations.
- Connections and Partnerships. Theories and practices of promoting positive engagement through:
- Learning spaces, digital, and learner analytics
- Co-creating of personal tutoring/advising approaches
- Student voice
- Personalising students’ learning experiences
- Breaking down engagement barriers and intercultural differences
- Professional development. Contributions reflecting on how personal tutoring and advising can shape and develop students’ core academic. professional, and personal skills, and in doing so address study skills and awarding gap issues. We would also welcome contributions thinking about how we can prepare academics and professional services staff to be the best tutors and advisors they can be.

- Presentations (15 minutes)
- Lightning talks (5 minutes)
