You’re heading to Newcastle!

Here are a few things to know before you arrive so you can spend less time stressing and more time getting settled.

First things first, check your emails! 

Before you arrive, you’ll get pre-arrival emails and reminders with all the important info you need for moving day. This includes where to go, how to arrive by foot or car, arrival times and what to expect. Basically: keep an eye on your inbox. 

Do not bury your ID! 

You’ll need your key collection pass; either physically or digitally, and some photo ID when you arrive for check-in. Every year, students absolutely nail the “remember my pass” part, and then put their ID at the very bottom of a suitcase, inside another bag, or somewhere in the deepest, darkest depths of the car. Don’t be that person. Keep your photo ID somewhere easy to reach and have your key collection pass ready to go when you arrive. Your key collection pass will be given to you when you complete your online accommodation induction.

Wi-Fi? Sorted 

We know it’s a utility on par with running water, so check out the Wi-Fi guide in your welcome pack for everything you need to get connected. 

Maybe leave the big food shop for later 

We know. You’ve arrived. You’re officially a student. Naturally, the next step is buying approximately 47 packets of noodles. But we’d recommend waiting until after your arrival to do your big food shop. Once you’ve dropped off your belongings, you won't be able to access the accommodation again with a car, as spaces are reserved for students checking in. So get yourself settled first, then head out for the food shop. Your cupboards can survive a few more hours while we get everyone else checked in. 

Got deliveries? 

If you’re ordering things for your new room, wait until you’re on site and able to collect them, then have them delivered to reception. Just a heads up: we can’t accept food deliveries, so plan accordingly!

Arriving somewhere new can feel like a LOT. New room. New flatmates. New city. New everything. That’s where your ResLife team comes in. We’ll be around to help you settle in, answer questions, point you in the right direction and make sure you know what’s happening in your village. Make sure you follow our social channels too, so you don’t miss the latest events, activities, giveaways and things happening around your accommodation.

And then… the big welcome 

Because obviously, we couldn’t let you arrive without a proper welcome. Join us at your Accommodation Welcome Fair: Passport to Independent Living on Tuesday 22 September at Park View for a whole load of first-week fun! Think photobooth, pizza, entertainment, competitions, freebies, plenty of chances to meet people and lots more.

Basically, come as you are, grab some food, have a wander around and see what’s going on. You don’t need to know anyone, and you definitely don’t need to have your entire uni life figured out yet — just turn up!

One last thing

Your first few days might feel exciting, overwhelming, brilliant, awkward — or somehow all four at once. That’s completely normal. Take it one day at a time, say hello to the people around you, explore your new home and remember that you’re not expected to know everything straight away. Your Newcastle adventure is about to begin… We can’t wait to welcome you!
