ResLife ReHome

ResLife ReHome is Newcastle University’s student-to-student donation initiative that helps reduce waste, support sustainability, and ease the cost of living for new students moving into accommodation.

Welcome to Newcastle. Last year, ResLife launched ReHome to help support incoming students as they settled into university life, and it's back again this September to welcome our new residents.

Volunteers at ReHome collects and clean, useful items donated by students who lived in our accommodation last year. These include everyday essentials like hangers, laundry baskets and kitchenware. Now, they are available for you to collect free of charge.

ReHome is part of our commitment to sustainability and student wellbeing, helping you feel supported from the moment you arrive.

Why ResLife ReHome matters

This initiative might seem simple, but the impact is huge.

Here’s what makes it worth shouting about:

  • reduces waste: Less stuff in landfill means a healthier planet.
  • supports students: Especially those who might be on a tight budget or arriving with very little.
  • saves money and resources: No need to buy everything new when there are quality items already available.
  • builds community: Students helping other students without even meeting. It's low effort and has a high impact.
  • sets a sustainable example: Starting your time at university with reused items encourages conscious habits from day one.

This is great for students who can’t arrive with a lot of items, the ReHome and Donate a Plate takes some of the stress away. Knowing we can help students at what already can be a very scary time makes us incredibly happy and we hear students feeding back
