Our Garden Club: Growing Community at Bowsden Court

Discover how Bowsden Court's Garden Club has grown from a small community project into a thriving space where students connect, learn new skills, grow fresh produce, and enjoy the benefits of sustainable living together.

13 July 2026

What started as a simple idea has blossomed into something pretty special at Bowsden Court.

Back in March 2023, our Garden Allotment Project was launched by ResLife Coordinator Stephen Olver with a clear goal: bring people together, support students through the cost of living, and promote a more sustainable way of living. And honestly? It’s done all that and more.

With a helping hand from John at NUSU’s Give It A Go, we got everything we needed to dig in — tools, materials, and a bit of know-how to get things growing. From there, our Garden Club took root.

When do we meet?

Every Wednesday from 1:30–2:30, our green-fingered community comes together. These days, the sessions are run by our brilliant ResLife Student Assistants, who keep things fun, relaxed, and welcoming for everyone — whether you’re a total beginner or a plant pro.

What do we grow?

A bit of everything! From vibrant beetroot and crunchy pak choi to fresh herbs like coriander, we plant, nurture, and harvest it all. And the best part? The produce goes straight back to Bowsden Court residents to enjoy.

It’s not just about gardening — it’s about learning new skills, getting outdoors, meeting new people, and seeing the (literal) fruits of your labour.

Take a look!

We’ve grown some amazing produce, and the photos speak for themselves. From tiny seedlings to full harvests, it’s been incredible to watch it all come to life.

Whether you’re in it for the veggies, the vibes, or just a break from the books, Garden Club is here!
