Everything you need to know about your first few weeks at university
Welcome
We hope you’re looking forward to joining us as a new student at Newcastle University. You’ll be joining a friendly, supportive and engaged academic community of students and professionals. We’re here to support you as you begin the next stage of your education and work towards becoming a pharmacy professional.
Induction begins on Monday 21st September 2026 for all new and returning students. This one-week induction period is an opportunity to get to know the University, the School of Pharmacy and your programme of study, as well as meet fellow students and staff.
It’s important that you attend your induction sessions so that you can make the most of the support, information and opportunities available to you throughout your time at Newcastle University.
Over the coming weeks, you'll also need to complete a range of forms and checks before joining us. We'll send you further information by email, so please check your university emails regularly to make sure you don't miss any important information or deadlines.
Please also make sure to read our student welcome pages which will give you all of the information you need and what to do before starting.
Teaching will start on Monday 28th September 2026.
Stage 1 Induction Timetable
Your Year 1 MPharm induction will take place throughout the week beginning Monday 21 September 2026.
During the week, we’ll welcome you to the School of Pharmacy and provide you with essential information about registration, your programme and the wellbeing and support services available to you.
Your first welcome session will take place:
- Date: Monday 21st September 2026
- Time: 9:00am
- Location: Dame Margaret Barbour Building, Room G.01
Once you have registered, you’ll be introduced to the rest of your induction week timetable.
We look forward to welcoming you to Newcastle University and the School of Pharmacy.
Important information
There are a few important steps you’ll need to complete before you begin your studies on the MPharm programme. These include:
- Order your lab coat and scrubs
- Complete the Occupational Health questionnaire
- Complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
- Complete the MPharm Declaration on Canvas
- Complete the Health and Safety requirements quiz on Canvas
- Register for ChemDraw by following the instructions on Canvas once you receive your registration email
We’ll contact you by email to let you know when each of these steps needs to be completed. Please check your university email account regularly and make sure you complete each requirement by the stated deadline.
Peer mentors
Every new undergraduate student at Newcastle University is assigned a Peer Mentor, whose role it is to welcome you to the University and help you to make a smooth transition to your programme of study.

Key people are your Academic Adviser, the Degree Programme Director, your lecturers and the admin staff in the School Office. We are all here to help you through your time studying at Newcastle.
