Thesis title: Examining Change in Anglo Norman French Using Computational Methods

This project will apply computational quantitative methods to study a medieval contact variety of French, known as Anglo-Norman.

Character N-gram models will be used to investigate this variety, which developed in England after the Norman Conquest. N-gram models have successfully been employed in previous data-driven studies to identify morphological and lexical changes in languages. In this project, they will be applied to study the spread and change of Anglo-Norman, and the ways in which it developed, and the nature of its influence on English. Through this, a data-grounded database will be compiled.
