Bar Access Fund

Bar Access Fund

The Bar Access Fund is generously funded by an alumni of Newcastle Law School. It supports current registered students who wish to pursue a career at the Bar.

The Fund allows the Law School to fund 12 bursaries of up to £300 each. Bursaries are for expenses in connection with applying to practise at the Bar (eg, mini-pupillages). It may cover travel, accommodation and other reasonable expenditure.

Application process

To apply for a bursary please email a statement of intent to newcastle.law-school@ncl.ac.uk marked for the attention of the School Manager.

Your statement of intent should outline:

  • how you will use the bursary in connection with a career at the Bar
  • the total amount requested (up to £300) and a breakdown of expenses to be incurred

You should also provide evidence of the opportunity, for example an email from a firm offering you a pupillage.

A condition of the award of this bursary is that you submit a 500-word reflective piece summarising the impact the opportunity had on your journey to the Bar. This must be submitting within four weeks of the end of the opportunity.

Deadline

As Bar activities take place throughout the academic year, there is no deadline. Applications must be received at least four weeks prior to the intended expenditure. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, as and when submitted.

Any queries about the Bar Access Fund should be directed to newcastle.law-school@ncl.ac.uk
