Gender and Politics Cluster
The Newcastle University Gender and Politics Cluster provides a forum for cutting edge scholarship on gender and politics.
Our work spans both theoretical and empirical analysis of the dynamic relationship between gender and politics. We approach these questions from diverse perspectives, using a wide variety of methodologies, techniques, and theoretical frameworks.
Throughout the year, we host presentations from both internal and external speakers, reading groups, writing retreats, work-in-progress seminars and engagement events tackling cutting-edge research which addresses some of the most pressing problems in contemporary politics.

Members of the research group co-convene the PSA Women and Politics Specialist Group and UACES Gendering EU Studies research network and are local organisers of the 2026 European Conference on Politics and Gender. Past roles have included editorships of academic journals such as Contemporary Political Theoryand Representation, and co-convening the British International Studies Association (BISA) Gendering International Relations Working Group
