Mr JM “Meenu” Malhotra DL serves as the Honorary Consul General of India for England, appointed in 2024 by the High Commissioner of India. In this capacity, he supports the Indian diaspora in the Northeast of England and contributes to strengthening bilateral engagement between the United Kingdom and India, particularly in the areas of education, research, innovation, trade and investment.
Educated at Sacred Heart Convent School and the University of Punjab, Mr Malhotra came to the United Kingdom in 1978 and established his first business shortly thereafter. He later founded Malhotra Group PLC, which now operates across the property, care, construction and leisure sectors and employs approximately 1,500 staff.
Mr Malhotra is actively involved in regional and international business leadership, serves on several boards and mentors several SMEs and start-ups. He was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Northumberland in 2021 and is a committed supporter of charitable and research initiatives, including projects at Newcastle University. He also leads major development programmes in Ludhiana, India, with a projected gross value of USD 1.5 billion.
